Founder of Lime Crime Shares Her Fitness Routine

Doe Deere is not only the founder of the iconic beauty brand Lime Crime, but is also renowned for her astute judgment of fashion and its finer nuances. She recently shared her morning routine with her many fans and followers across the world. Ensuring that she gets nine hours of sleep every night, she wakes up religiously at 8:30 am every day and has breakfast in the kitchen by a window, where she plans her day ahead.

 

Amongst the first things that she does in the morning is to have a glass of water as that helps to keep her hydrated in the dry climate of Los Angles where she lives. She then does some stretches, particularly the cat/camel routine, which she feels works quite well for her. That is followed by breakfast, which for her usually comprises of grits, a hot cereal, yogurt, fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice, made with oranges from her own tree!

 

Her life is in a sense inextricably linked to the calendar on the phone, which means checking the latter is something she inevitably does every morning. Through her company's internal chat, she pretty much knows, what's going on in her organization, by the time she reaches her office. Other than that, she keeps away from the digital clatter and focuses more on things like new products to introduce. Things like emails she tackles in the latter part of the day.

 

While putting on her makeup, she likes listening to music and currently it is The Beatles that she listens to. Her fondness for their music goes back to her childhood years when she would listen to them a lot. She likes using Glossier face wash as she finds it mild and likes its smell of roses. For moisturizer, she uses Murad, Hydro Dynamic Quenching Essence. When it comes to foundation, she likes using L’Oreal’s True Match Foundation or MAC’s Studio Fix.

 

Apparently, Deere is working on creating a foundation under her own Lime Crime brand, which she hopes to introduce into the market soon. An essential part of her makeup routine is to set her makeup with powder before filling in her brows and then to proceed to her cheeks and lips. The favorite part of her makeup routine has to be blush and lipstick, as she feels that colors enliven her face.

 

The colors of her choice are ‘Rustic,' ‘Red Velvet' and ‘Pink Velvet' from her Lime Crime ‘Matt Velvetine' range. Her makeup can take from anything between fifteen minutes to an hour depending on what the occasion demands. Doing her makeup in the morning is the time she cherishes the most, as it gives her time to spend with herself and be herself.

 

She likes to defer her shower till late in the evening, as she likes her hair to be dry and all set for styling in the mornings. To create her famous shiny waves, she uses a curling wand. Because she rather likes to display the purple in her hair, she often wears it down.

When Doe Deere started out an online hustle in 2004, she had no idea it would turn out to be a multi-billion cosmetic company and brand name. Lime Crime's founder and CEO Doe Deere didn't underestimate her love affair with bright colors. Her love for flashing clothes was challenged by the lack of splashy colored makeup, something that got her brain ticking. Lime Crime was the result. Brilliantly bright lipstick made in line with animal-friendly policies was just the right shade of color. Doe Deere started out in 2008 and had successfully put her name in the cosmetics world. Lime Crime manufactures and distributes lipstick, eye shadows, and nail polish.

 

 

Use of e-commerce and selling her product online is what set her apart from heavyweight giants. Her background with eBay sales gave her the confidence in knowing that her products will perform well and go beyond the continent. The core business principle that has her going is the clarity of her vision on how women want their makeup. She develops the designs alongside her creative designers and personally tests them out to get a feel and live out the lipstick before deciding if it passes her test of quality.

Born in Russia, her love for makeup started out in a girl's slumber party at the age of nine. She admits that she wasn't a makeup expert. However, she also defines herself as a creative spirit that is always experimental. She migrated to New York City when she was 17. She is married to her long time husband who is also the president of Lime Crime, both live in Los Angeles.

Lime Crime Cosmetics is animal friendly and the name of the company came from Doe Deere's favorite color. She is an avid supporter of women that own their own businesses and often speaks to the public to follow their passion. She loves talking to female entrepreneurs and counsels them should they have questions on how to get their own businesses started. Her social network is always open to aspiring business owners. Deere also donates regularly Bide-A-Wee, a no kill shelter located in New York. She lived in New York for years but is originally from Russia.

 

Doe Deere is asked how she came up with her business concept. It all started back in 2004 when she registered a new eBay account called "limecrime". This was geared towards her DIY fashion line. She was the model for all her items and she didn't want to stop at just clothing. She wanted her makeup to be as bold as her attire. Vividly, bright colors were hard to come by then, so that is what inspired her.

 

What keeps her different from all the other brands, is that she knows exactly what she wants and knows exactly what her brand stands for. Doe Deere sees it as the freedom of expression. She also contributes her success to knowing what consumers want. And each product she creates, she tests it on herself first. She follows her instincts and if it feels right great, if not, then she continues until it feels right. Her only regret with Lime Crime Cosmetics is that she didn't start the company up sooner.

 

Doe Deere believes in treating her customer base and employees with respect and love. She wants to inspire and uplift, create a pleasant working environment, and treat customers in the same fashion. Positive reinforcement goes a long way and often gets you better results than being negative.

How Doe Deere Became The Cosmetics Trendsetter Of A Generation

For almost ten years, Doe Deere has been managing to launch countless trends with her cosmetics line Lime Crime. Today, makeup enthusiasts can't get enough of Deere's bold, highly pigmented and attention-grabbing makeup products like her pastel neon Unicorn Lipsticks and the ultra metallic Superfoils eyeshadow duos.

 

However, Deere wasn't always a makeup guru. In fact, as a teenager, she set out to be a rock star. Born in Russia, Deere moved to New York City to launch a music career when she was only 17 years old.

 

It wasn't long before teenage Deere started getting a series of gigs at various New York City clubs and bars. While on stage, Deere was as known for her musical talent as she was known for her eccentric and bold style aesthetic. Today, Lime Crime has launched countless makeup trends around the world. In 2008, however, Deere's neon lipsticks and eyeshadows weren't exactly what customers were looking for. 2008 was the year of neutral tones and minimal looks. But, Deere stuck to her gut and followed her creative vision. Within a couple of years, Lime Crime sales were through the roof.
